SUSTAINABILITY

“WELL DONE, GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT. YOU HAVE BEEN FAITHFUL OVER A LITTLE; I WILL SET YOU OVER MUCH. ENTER INTO THE JOY OF YOUR MASTER.” -MATTHEW 25:21

One of the highest priorities of ROCKbridge Ministries is to empower communities and individuals to become self-sustainable and independent of needs for outside support. To pursue this goal, our ministries include income-generating structures that both aid the community and enable their operations to be self-sustaining. The medical clinics established at several churches in Nakuru generate enough revenue to cover their operation costs and even provide some funding for other projects in the churches (Read more about the health clinics on our Relationship page). The schools collect fees from families who can afford to pay, which in turn help operate the schools. The Tumaini Cottages and Conference Centre, the Clean Water Initiative, and the Tumaini Solar Project also play large roles helping create lasting sustainability in our ministries.
Each of the ministries of ROCKbridge also play into employment for their staff and employees; the medical professionals at health clinics, the cooks at the Tumaini Cottages and Conference Centre, and the teachers at various schools. Take a look at our Education page to read more about how ROCKbridge helps empower individuals to sustain themselves economically.
Holiday Homes Project

A child’s dreams should be limitless even when growing up in a community stricken with poverty. Revenues from Holiday Homes will support higher education for children from at-risk communities and the orphans graduating from Tumaini Mission School and Children’s Home.

HOLIDAY HOMES
Kenya is a new concept for Holiday Makers for both Groups and Families . The holiday homes will build income-generating
structures that both aid the community and
enable operations to be self-sustaining.

Clean Water Initiative
A further aspect of sustainability related to the Tumaini Cottages and Conference Centre is the Clean Water Initiative. When it was established, the Conference Centre needed a source of clean, accessible water to run its operations. A borehole was drilled on the property, which provided enough water both for the Conference Centre and to allow Tumaini to sell clean water back to the community. ROCKbridge Ministries helped Tumaini partner with churches in the U.S. to gather funding enough to buy a water truck to deliver the water to other holding tanks around the city.

Right now, ROCKbridge is developing plans to expand the capacity of the water system at Tumaini.

Solar Power Project
A third project enhancing the sustainability of the Tumaini Cottages and Conference Centre is the installation of solar panels to power the facilities. These forms of renewable energy, in addition to being environmentally friendly, provide enough power in Kenya’s abundant sunlight to free Tumaini from reliance on the traditional city power grid, saving it a significant expense. The solar panels also generate enough electricity to be able to sell some back to the surrounding community.
